Regular checking of tyres is important to ensure that your car is legal, safe and reliable for you and your family.
The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm across the middle three-quarters of the tyre. However, experts regard 3mm of tread as being a safer indicator of when to change a tyre.
You can easily check your tyres for wear using a 20p coin. Simply insert into the thread, if you can see some of the outer band on the coin then it’s time to have your tyres inspected.
Wheel alignment
Checking wheel alignment, or tracking ensures that your vehicle’s wheels are set to the optimum position to avoid problems like poor handling and uneven tyre wear.
Wheel alignment problems can be caused by hitting a kerb, potholes or by excessive wear to components.
